Emergency Response Pool

The Emergency Response Pool qualification is designed to assist operators to meet the requirement of the HSE publication ‘Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools’ (HSG179).

It is ideal for schools, health clubs, hotels and spas; work in environments where independent Lifeguards are not necessarily present. The Emergency Response programme is designed to train ancillary staff to back up and support the lifeguard team (if available) and to respond to an emergency.

Who should attend?

​

Anyone working within an establishment that operates a pool of whatever type or dimension, and who may be called upon to respond to a pool related emergency.  You must be 16 in order to commence this course. This is NOT a learn-to-swim course and a good swimming standard is expected of all candidates.

What you will learn

​

Delegates gaining this qualification will have a thorough understanding of the practical lifesaving and first aid skills needed.  The course combines both the theoretical and practical skills to enable you to lifeguard in any swimming pool.

Course content

​

Section 1 – The emergency responder’s role, Pool Safety Operating Procedures, types of pools & swimmer safety information.

​

Section 2 – Responding to an emergency and the Emergency Action Plan

​

Section 3 – CPR and First Aid

​

Assessment and certification

​

Assessment consists of Practical Rescue Skills, First Aid, CPR and Theory questions.

​

Upon successful completion candidates are awarded the RLSS Emergency Response Pool  Award which is valid for 2yrs
