National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (G9)

This internationally recognised Royal Life Saving Society National Pool Lifeguard Qualification award is THE Lifeguarding qualification for anyone looking to work in the leisure industry.

Who should attend?

​

Anyone looking to work as a lifeguard in the UK, Europe or around the World. You must be 16 in order to commence this course and, if they are not confident of their swimming ability,  attend an initial pre-course assessment. This is NOT a learn-to-swim course and a good swimming standard is expected of all candidates.

Course Pre-requisites

​

The pre-requisites are that you must be at least 16yrs old on the day of the course assessment,  and that you have a reasonable swimming standard, and the RLSS describes this as being able to:

  • Swim 50m in 60 second or less

  • Swim 100m on your front and on your back.

  • Tread water for 30 seconds

  • Climb out of the pool without using the steps, and

  • Dive to the bottom of the deepest part of the pool.

If you are not confident of this, then you should attend a pre-course assessment before committing to the course.

What you will learn

​

Delegates gaining this qualification will have a thorough and comprehensive understanding of the practical lifesaving and first aid skills needed to perform the role of a lifeguard.  The course combines both the theoretical and practical skills to enable you to lifeguard in any swimming pool.

Section 1The Lifeguard and the Law, Swimming Pool Supervision

  • The Lifeguard and the Law

  • Swimming Pool, Hazards and Control Measures

  • Swimming Pool Supervision

Section 2Intervention, Rescue and Emergency Action Plans

  • Intervention and Rescue

  • Rescue of a Casualty with a Suspected Spinal Injury

  • Emergency Action Plan

​

Section 3Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, AED and First Aid

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • First Aid

  • Automated External Defibrillation (AED)

Course Duration

​

40 Hours

​

Assessment and certification

​

Delegates are continually assessed and receive feedback on progress throughout the course.  Final assessment consists of Practical Rescue Skills, First Aid, CPR and AED, plus questions on Lifeguard Theory.

​

Upon successful completion candidates are awarded the RLSS NPLQ Award which is valid for 2yrs.
